About

Just Add Story

Don’t get your hopes up: this is not a high-volume blog. I don’t post every day. Sometimes I don’t post every week. Or month. If I don’t have anything to say, then I won’t say anything.

Just Add Story.

This blog is about what makes writing writing. Mostly. Good things (and not-so-good things) about written works, and working writers. Things that make reading enjoyable. Things about how to turn that into writing. And comments about the technology and sociology of reading and writing. Even the occasional book or movie review.

Good fiction prose will have description that describes, characters that are distinct and develop, and dialogue you can hear. It will also have plotline and a story to take you from start to finish. A good story can save bad description, but not the other way around.

Just Add Story.

Everyone has a story. Mine is that I’m a writer, and I have been for a long time, I just never knew the name to go with it until recently. Unfortunately, like all things one wants to be good at, I’m still learning. Especially about stories.

Us human beings love stories. It is how we think, after all. We tell stories in order to make sense of the world around us, of the life we live. And of ourselves.

The stories we write and read are a part of ourselves. Those we come back to are ones that show us ourselves.
